Happiness is an inside job. Often, we look to others—partners, friends, or family—to fulfill our emotional needs, but true happiness must come from within. Although sharing life with those around you is beautiful. The people in our lives enrich our experiences and bring us joy. We talk, laugh, dance, eat, and spend precious moments together. But we should not depend on them for our sense of fulfillment.
Your happiness should be something you create and nurture, independent of the actions, moods, and expectations of others.
Don’t allow others to decide when, why, or how happy you should be. By taking responsibility for your own happiness, you free yourself from the need for external validation.
When you rely on others for happiness, you hand over control of your emotional well-being to them. Because it’s easy to get into the habit of letting someone else’s actions or words affect your mood. It also puts a lot of strain on those relationships and you end up feeling disappointed when people don’t live up to your expectations.
